The 2011 Winter Stonefly Classic will be held December 17th and 18th, 2011. Venues will be an exact match of the 2012 SE Qualifier and shortly before the 60 day FIPS cutoff. This is a great chance to fish the comp waters one last time before the Qualifier!

Entry fee is $50.00 per angler. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Given that this comp is a little over a month away, we're going to cap at 24 anglers, then build a waitlist. If the waitlist gets to 32, we'll add those 8 anglers.

Long story short, because this is a competitor-judged event, we need to keep each of the four groups (A,B,C, and D) at an even number of anglers. At 24 there will be six anglers per group. At 32 there would be eight anglers per group. No ghosts!

Cant waite..........there are lots of thick headed 20+ inch browns moving all over the main Davidson getting ready for the spawn. Low clear water makes them pretty easy to find but i have not seen any actually on the bed yet...........still just real spooky and chasing 14 inchers around. I had one come a try and eat a little 8 inch rainbow i had on today. Should of let him have it! If your in the area check out the tail end of the slicks in the shady areas and look around all the log jamz. You'll see'm!!!!!!!

Are spectators allowed? I live in the area and would love to watch some, from a healthy distance of course. I don't want to be in the way though.

I'm sure I can speak for Smith when I say that all spectators are not only welcome but greatly appreciated! Bring some friends, drinks, a few folding chairs, and a pair of binoculars.

Good spectator etiquette as you've noted is to stay a healthy distance back. Talk to the controllers though, they will know what the competitor needs are and you can often shadow them and/or move right in to see fish being measured, etc.

Sure thing Chris. In fact, Kevin Howell and Bill will be setting up spectator stands on the private water for the SE.

On that note, if you'd like to volunteer as a controller for the SE Qualifier, no prior experience is necessary. It's a great way to observe quality anglers up close...and I mean up close. Chances are you'll learn something valuable to assist you in your own angling endeavors!

Excellent. I am looking forward to it. I am new to all of this so I assume that the competitors will be split among the different venues. I guess I can drive along the road till I see someone to quietly observe. These are my home waters so I look forward to seeing how the pros do it.

I will very seriously consider being a controller for SE. I have had the pleasure of fishing with a few comp guys and I can't seem to shake the idea. It is only a matter of time before I have to give it a go. I am certainly not at the level of the people on this board but hey, we all gotta start somewhere.

We will be split amongst the venues. The DRO private waters would be a good place to watch. As you know, the fish in the main D can get skittish, but the two beats near Coontree (7 and 8 ) offer great views from a distance.

And if you get there at the start, you could probably tag along with the fellow competitor/judge.
