Jim Iredale and his team ran a really tight competition. We all had a fantastic time and as with every comp. learned a sheeeton!  Was a slight bummer not being able to fish the Diable' River again, but a full loch style competition is a rare thing in this continent so I think it was maybe even more of a success. 

Gotta throw a big thankyou out to Jeremiah and his beautiful family for putting us up for the weekend.  You guys were so incredibly generous and there's always an open door down here for you.  The Raclette was spectacular!  Sorry we scared your daughter half to death with our snoring    Arron, great to meet you and talk shop for a couple days. 

btw, J - those are some tight photos!  Sharp as a tack.  Thanx for posting.

It was a great tournament with some pretty serious competition for just a small tournament. I realized that doing amazing the first day really puts a lot of pressure on you for the second day. I'll post some pics on my blog soon with a short summery of the comp.

Here was my FB post kinda sums up my thoughts!

This past weekend I competed in my first FIPS-Mouche Fly Fishing Competition. Dejon and I went up to fish as a 2 man team in the Quebec Fly Fishing Championships. The event was scheduled for 2 river sessions on the Diable and 2 Loch sessions on Lac Renversie. Due to heavy rains leading to dangerous river conditions the venue was swapped to a 4 Loch session event with Lac du Cap on Saturday and Renversie on Sunday.

I underestimated the planning, research, and overall preparation that went in to competitive angling. On the fly (no pun intended) you need to adapt and overcome: rule modifications, weather conditions, venue changes and you may only have hrs to do so! This was my first comp experience as well as my first Loch style event. My goal was to; Network, Observer and Learn EVERYTHING I could and if possible place in the top third. I figured the placing part was a bit lofty with some of the names competing and my first ever but have to set the bar somewhere.

Well…long story short I achieved ALL of my goals and more, to include placing 7th overall and at the end of the day Dejon and I won Team Gold for first placing team! Sounds corny… but a moment I won’t forget anytime soon!

We practiced hard… developed a plan and stuck to the plan. In the end it all paid off!!!

I also want to take a minute and thank Dejon, on the board... He was a awesome partner and we raelly worked well together! He has been at this game for a few years and has a number of comps under his belt and I am very pleased to be apart of his best Team and personal finish! Thanks Again, D!
