Stream Conditions for NE Qualifier
« on: March 02, 2011, 03:14:08 PM »
Just wanted to post the stream conditions for each venue for the guys/girls coming from out of state. Not sure how many of you know where to find them so I thought it might be helpful. I will post every couple of days to the changes.

Stream Conditions:
Penns: Running at 1590 CFS; Average for today is 463 CFS; Off Color; Water Temp is in the 30's.
BFC: No instream gauges but it's running high and off color.
Spring: Running at 251 CFS; Average for today 107 CFS; slightly off color; Water Temp is in the low 40's.
Little J: Running at 1680 CFS; Average for today 406; Muddy; Water Temp is in the upper 30's/Low 40's.

Future Weather Issues:
March 6, 2011 - Rain in accumulation to .11 inches (daytime).
March 10, 2011 - Rain in accumulation to .33 inches (daytime) and .15 inches (overnight).
March 11, 2011 - Partly Sunny; High of 34/Low of 27.
March 12, 2011 - Sunny; High of 44/Low of 28.
March 13, 2011 - Mostly Cloudy; High of 41/Low of 30.

Less than 1" of rain over the next week or more.  Nationals was 2-5 inches over night.  I think we'll be OK guys.

yeah Loren your right...just having some fun....it could be a lot worse...plus these streams bounce back pretty quick....I don't think we have anything to worry about....but it would be a site to see 28 fisherman in life vest along the creek  :D

The weather will do what the weather will do.   I think this is what fisherman do... like farmers... we talk about the weather.  What else are we gonna do while we wait for eggs and coffee?

However, there's nothing inaccurate about Brandon's data that I can see.

Randy dude...I'm not tracking with you....I'm not trying to glean anything. I just wanted everyone that was involved in the competition on the 12th and 13th to have a couple of updates on the stream conditions. I wasn't sure if everyone was able to access the stream conditions so I posted them along with the weather.

Trust me Randy I am so thankful for all the help and advice I've received from everyone on this site. I have so much to learn, thus I ask questions. I'm sorry if I offended you in any way or offended Loren or anyone else on this site. It was never my intent.

I am confused? I see nothing wrong with posting the forcast and stream levels.

Thanks for posting the updates Brandon.

up to 2 inches or rain possible tonight.  Penns is already over 1000 cfs, Little J at 800 and Spring Creek at 350.  Should make for a good week of practice!

I agree...I see nothing wrong with this and I thought the whole idea of this board was the sharing of information...thanks Brandon for letting us know the conditions.

I will give an update on Monday after this storm and everything is over with....these creeks get back to normal pretty quick and besides the 2 inches of rain this weekend we shouldn't get anymore...just a chance on thursday but it's not suppose to amount to everything.....

Bill.....I fished spring today...on fire....Spring always fishes better when there's more water in it.

************************UPDATE********************************

March 7, 2011

Stream Conditions:
BFC - No in stream gauges
Spring - 546 cfs
Penns - 3670 cfs
Little J - 1670 cfs

The State College and surrounding are got hammered this weekend with not only 1.36 inches of rain but also with 8"-10" of snow. Stream levels are high but falling. However, there is 1.21 inches of rain on the way for Wednesday night into Thursday morning. But for the weekend things will be looking up with either partly cloudy or sunny days both Saturday and Sunday with temps in the mid 40's.

Please don't let the weather discourage anyone from participating or attending. There will be fish and they will be taking flies.

Be safe during practice guys with this high water.

All the best.

I am seeing some heavy rain forecasts for Wed-Thur night in the State College area. Another 2-4 inches of rain with snow in the mix. Could be another Nationals all over again, ugh!

There are so many flies on those wires (mine included) that they should be pulled down soon!

I'll supply the power saw if anyone wants to prune the kayak course when the water comes down.....But in all seriousness its a shame that some of the best nymphing water on spring creek is almost impossible to fish because the kayak course is in the way.  Hopefully someone will bring it up to the PAFBC and they will be required to take it down in the non-kayaking months.
