Great Chris! It's really a lot easier than it's made out to be sometimes: Get an event permit, put up some flags, keep score. Outside of that you can literally make it as hard or easy as you want

Mark sounds kind of interesting. I never was a comp,, fisherman, but I would like to see you guys in action. I have no idea of the rules and regulations of this type of fishing. But hell I am 5 minutes away. I am interested in trying it.

Don, where did you hit a road block in singing up? It should just be a print out for the registration form. Let me know - maybe it's an issue for everyone.

The important rules are:
Barbless or debarbed hooks only
No indicators
No split shot or exposed weigt
Maximum 4.0 bead
Continuous leader (ex: can not break by tying eye to shank)

I think you'd have a lot of fun! I'll bet you're all ready fishing close to comp. legal.

Please take close notice of the following practice water restrictions, rules, and competitor meeting places. If you have any questions at all please ask away!

As of this post Competition water is off limits and includes:
West Branch Clarion: Confluence of Wolf Run Above Tambine Bridge to Lower end of Johnsonburgh Elementary School property
East Branch Clarion: All of the Delayed Harvest Area below the East Branch Dam
Mainstem Clarion: From the confluence of east and West Branch to the "Lagoons" 1.5 mile below Johnsonburgh

All water outside these markers is open to practice.

This includes but is not limited to:
1)Barbless or completely debarbed hooks only
2)No split shot or exposed weight
3)No Indicators
4)Continuous unbroken leader (no tying eye to eye, etc.)
5)One max 4.0mm bead per fly
6)3 fly max
7)Flies must be fashioned as a "fly" (ex: just tying a balloon or bunch of yarn to a hook is not a "fly")
8)Competitors must fish around other anglers (you or your controller may politely urge people to move, but that's it. This is standard fips-mouche rules and will definitely be an issue in this competition.)
9)Competitors may string-up as many rods as they wish (you are responsible for the safety of your own gear - work with your controller on this.)
10)All fish must be released quickly and healthy to count. Your controller may ask for assistance in measuring fish, but he is in charge of recording the length. Your controller must stay on one side of the river.

Transportation: competitors must provide their own transportation to and from venues, but we can most likely car pool where room permits. It is your responsibility to be in the right place at the right time. Competitors who are late for a session will not fish and will score a blank for that session (Be EARLY!!). We will be announcing a location/time for the a Friday night competitors meeting shortly (most likely 7pmish in Ridgeway). If you can not attend it is your responsibility to gather all necessary information. All competitors must meet at the The Royal Inn (17089 Boot Jack Rd. Rt. 219 Ridgway, PA 15853) both Saturday and Sunday morning and then proceed as a group to the first session (time to be announced).

Watch: please bring a watch to time sessions.

On time: We are fishing/controlling 3 sessions a day. There will be little or no time to head back to your lodging in between sessions. Bring everything you will need (lunch, drinks, change of clothes gear, etc) for the entire day. We will be heading directly to the next session and so on. Daily scores will be posted at the (motel) and/or online if possible.

Not unless there are some last minute walk ons. Should be a nice little comp!

The fishing has been excellent lately too. Lots of fresh float stockings on some of the venues and really active wild fish on others with good hatches too!

Everyone bring your cameras too! It would be nice if we could all get some good shots while we're controlling.

Well fellas hope everyone has a great time. I probably would have goneto this one if I had not already had a prior engagement paid for but I will be fishing the Ausable River 2 fly competition this weekend so should be a good practice for me.. Just a quick update.

Mark and I walked what feels like 100 miles today setting up beats on 3 rivers. Next year we're going to use pontoon boats!!! Later we got a little practice in and enjoyed several doubles and grand slams of some of PA's finest stocked trout. So far the weather has been glorious and we're hoping the storm front approaching only leaves an occasional shower.
