How long do you make your tag for the dry?

Personally I jut try to make it as sort as possible.  I would guess 2" or less is that I shoot for.  The shorter the tag the better the strike detection.

great conversation on this topic. Personally, I think that klinkhammer is within reason. It is a properly dressed fly, but it got electroshocked into an afro. It is also very clever. As for the dry dropper lengths, I recently went with I believe a 4.5-5ft dropper between dry and dropper and I found I had some success with it, although even that is longer than my usual. I was working a relatively dead section of the Paulinskill, and it had a really long drift and the take was more subtle, but at about 5 ft I didn't have any trouble detecting it.

I usually go between 2-4 feet.

I usually have a tag of about 2-4 inches. I was taught to watch the knot for detection and it works really well, you see it move before the dry ever does.
