NAlS

Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain, Georgia
Species: Rainbow Trout (large)
Lakes 3

1. There will be one angler in each tube.
2. Anglers may not float, paddle, or fish within 60 ft of another tube.
3.. Tubes must be launched at least ten minutes before the start of the session to give competitors time to arrive by the start time of the session at a position from which they will commence fishing.
4. Competitors while fishing must be seated on the fitted seats but may use a cushion of a maximum depth of ten centimeters.
5. Netting of fish must be done by the competitor.

They are in tubes for this... so I think you'd look a little out of place trying to deploy an International Drogue. It would make a great youtube video though!

Guys I think the competition went well for using tubes/ fishcat fatcats.
Fishing was much slower than any time I have ever fished these lakes. I judged with another area guide so that we had two judges in the water at all times at different halves of the lake. There were two flights of six anglers and two sessions at 1:45 hours long each.

Tim Fisk maintained a lead and got two first placing points for both of his sessions, followed by joey walraven who came in second. I am finishing the final placings for the rest of the field tonite.

Competitiors:
Tim Fisk
Andrew Brown
Hunter Hoffler
Bret Neslon
Mark Adams
Justin Pickett
Robby Elliott
Brandon Withrow
Joey Walraven
Jamie Sullivan
Dominic Roja
Wes Neale

Congrats guys!

I'd like to hear some more about how the comp went with Tubes, 60ft rule, 2 judges, etc. I think you guys rock for testing a new loch format!!!

Ill let some of the competitors chime in as I think the format can be tweaked but from a judging standpoints was straight forward and seamless imo.  Anglers were not allowed to fish within 50ft of another angler or judge, all tubes used were the same open front pontoon style outcasts. No trolling was aallowed and judges monitored that no one was fishing/trolling while under flippered propulsion. Anglers were allowed to use their fins to turn and maneuver for a cast or drift.

Guys chime in with your feedback so we can get these things dialed in and make a better format to use tubes or toons as a viable competition watercraft.

i think for a new format, the tourney went very smooth. it's probably limited in the venues it can be used (smaller lakes), but for those
types of venues it's probably the best fit.
there were really no glaring flaws or problems (other then the cramp i got in my hamstring..ouch).
pros:
* need for fewer judges, since one judge can manage multiple (3-4) competitors
* much easier (and cheaper) to provide equal playing field with the tubes as opposed to finding equally matched boats/motors

cons
* not feasible for larger water; unless you could have different launching points. you just can't cover that much ground (water) in the tubes.
* cramps (lol)
