We're going to book-end the summer with a September 18th "left-behinds" mini-comp. Those of us not going to the Cup can't miss out on all the points!

is the nantahala wild trout or is it stocked waters ?(fingerling or adult) if stocked

The lower Nantahala is almost entirely wild trout (I'd estimate 98%). There are limited stockings, however, especially around the campgrounds.

The upper Nantahala is designated a delayed harvest stream, meaning they stock Oct, Nov, March, April, and May. There's a strong population of wild trout, however. In September the upper will yield wild trout with very few holdovers.

Its an awesome river to fish if you have the chance to. I dont think youd be disappointed.. I fished it , and those rafts..phew

Looking forward to some good fishing on both sections! Most of the commercial raft traffic will be gone after labor day so it will be nothing like the usual summer floatillas!!!!!!

Just a reflection of the heightened interest this board and our national team have brought to the sport.

Two years ago we would have struggled to put together a comp with even one or two anglers who had fished in the national championships. Now? Half the talent in the region is off to the Cup, and we are still drawing a field in which almost 1/2 of the anglers have fished Nationals. Great stuff!

Chris Smith is trying to get the Pisgah permit finalized and we are working on finalizing the Lake venue. Hoping to announce something by mid October. As of now we are looking at having 4 venues and 32 competitors.

Chris - big kudos for getting this going and running really smooth, thanks for your efforts. We all had a lot of fun and Bret giggled like a schoolgirl all the way home.....

Low clear water made for tough fishing conditions, but the scoreable numbers bely the fact that a lot of smaller wild fish were caught. Mac caught 19 non-scorables in one session!

All that being said, Bret Nelson hooked what many believe to be a 30 inch brown during the final session. Eye witnesses who saw the fish said it looked like a Marlin!
