Southwest Colorado Regional
« on: March 25, 2010, 01:03:33 PM »
Hello everybody,

May 15th and 16th, 2010 Southwest Colorado Regional

Loch style tournament on Vallecito and Lemon Reservoirs*
16 competitor maximum.
There will be a $50 entry fee.
Please email brian@caddiscompany.com

I'm working with two hotels on special lodging for competitors and controllers.  Closest airports are Durango, Farmington, NM then Albuquerque (4hr drive).
*There are two alternate locations if these Reservoir permits fall through, Pagosa Lakes and Electra/Havaland Lakes.

Thank you,
Brian Capsay

Update:
Great first day response!
As of this morning we have twelve competitors signed up with five current or past Team USA members competing.  After talking with Anthony I have decided to increase the number of competitors in order to make this a Team USA sanctioned event.  If interested please let me know.

Kurt, are you planning on coming?
I have 18 competitors signed up.  We are renting aluminum fishing boats with 25hp motors for Vallecito and drift boats for Lemon.  I have 13 people that have committed to control/judge.  I'm going to TU meeting on Monday to see if I can draw up some more interest, I'd like to have 16 judges commit even though we only need 12 due to drop outs last minute.  I'd rather have too many! Permits are set for Vallecito and the paperwork has been sent for Lemon and should be no problem.  Now I'm working on lodging discounts for competitors and judges and hoping I can get 6 more people to sign up.

Gentlemen,

Attached are the 2009 Fips-Mouche rules and Modifications for Tournament.  I should have lodging options for you Monday or Tuesday but this is your responsibility.  I'd suggest looking into staying around the Vallecito area which is about 25 miles from Durango and around 15 miles away from Lemon Reservoir.  We are currently sitting at twenty competitors but I plan on having 24 total so if you know anyone that hasn't registers please let them know.  Please send $50 to:

Southwest Colorado Regional

Pay to the order of: Brian Capsay

361 South Camino Del Rio #146

Durango, CO 81303

All moneys will go towards boat rentals for Vallecito.  This will be a "Team USA Sanctioned Event" with points and qualifications awarded.

Please let me know if you have any questions,

Brian Capsay

Southwest Colorado Team USA Regional
May 15th and 16th 2010

Random draw for beat and boat assignments will be done by ”pick out of the hat” competitor draw.  Competitor draw and meeting will be held at Vallecito marina at 7:00pm Friday May 14th.  Lodging options will be able soon, we are currently looking into discounted rates for competitors but will be the responsibility of the competitor.  All 2009 Fips-Mouche rules will apply except for rule modifications below.  Tournament is tentatively set for Session I and III from 9:00am to 12:00pm and Session II and IIII for 1:00pm to 4:00pm.  Four groups of six will be assigned A, B, C and D respectfully where Group A and B will fish Vallecito session I and II then Lemon session III and IV and vice versa for Groups C and D.

Please see: ARTICLE 10: BOAT FISHING COMPETITIONS in official 2009 Fips-Mouche rules.

Best of luck to all those competing!  I wish I had access to boats out here in PA there are some good lakes espically in the NE section of the state.

Great work Brian!  hopefully I can make it to the next one you put on.

So, how big do the fish run in these Reservoirs? Do you think you'll see any hogs caught in comp?

D,
To answer your question earlier, I rented 25 hp aluminum fishing boats for Vallecito and have drift boats set up for Lemon.

The fish in Lemon will vary, the Rainbows will be just about measurable but the resident Browns will be much bigger.  They probably average around 18".  In Vallecito will be a whole different story it has held state record for Brown trout in the past.  There are some big ones in there but will most likely not be caught.

Anyone communicating with anyone in the comp?

Capsay, I hear nothing but positive remarks on the comp.  Well organized and run without hiccups.  Nice work!  Sorry I couldn't make it...

Thanks Lance,
Next time!  Probably do another one but will be with river sessions.  The comp did run smooth but I had some great help.  One thing that was disappointing was the fact that I had 23 competitors signed up but we ended up with 16.  I understand if you can't make it but there were a few people who never let me know they were not coming or told me the day before.....NOT COOL.

Total fish caught- Vallecito 79
                         Lemon  440

I think 35cm was the biggest.  DOW stocked the reservoir three weeks ago with 10,000 eight inch fish.  So, if you found them you did well.
