Airflo Lines ... Midge Tip Question
« on: June 24, 2011, 06:52:34 PM »
I'm looking at replacing several lines and I was wondering if the Airflo midge tip was worth a look. I'm currently using the Rio midge tip, which is a nice line, but has some memory issues (nothing major, but...).

Does anyone have this line in their arsenal and if so what do you like/hate about it.

For what it's worth; the Rio MidgeTip has a reputation of being much more effective than Airflo's version of that line. I've been told this time-and-time-again by a great number of coaches and competitive anglers that I've met and fished with while in the U.K., New Zealand and at home.

I have the airflo mdge tip and although I don't mind it, the one thing I like less about it is the weld between lines (2010 version) is a little heavy and clunky.  Otherwise usable.  But I don't have the Rio Midgetip to compare right now.  The Airflo is non-stretch though, so resistant to the coiling/memory issue.

I find those large welds really annoying too.  Last trip out I busted off a late boat run fish because of it.  I'm intending to chop it off and form a nice neat backing loop.  Same on my aqualux.

Hi Aaron have a look at teeny midge tip  ;)

Thanks William.

I used to own one back in the days before I competed. Comparable to the Rio and probably a lot better with regards to memory. The only thing that put me off was the cloudiness of the tip--it seemed to defeat it's use as a stealth line or at least I thought so at the time. It's probably less of an issue with the loch style. I eventually passed it along to a friend and went with the Rio. When the Rio wears out I look at the Teeny again.

Regards,

Aaron

Large welds? every Airflo line I have has a fairly small nearly unbrakeable weld... just my $.02
