I have a Stearns and several Mustang PFD (three fishing vests and three collar style inflatables). The self-inflating ones are a good idea for jet-boating or night time boating, but are pretty much a handicap for deep wading, as they will automatically inflate when the sensor gets wet!

At this year's WFFC in Scotland, two competitors used the PFDs that were supplied by the organizing committee, and they were activated and deployed as soon as they waded deep into the River Tay (PFDs were mandatory). The South African had to wait for almost fifteen minutes for his controller to get another cartridge, as it was illegal to wade without a fully functional PFD (his was deployed). This cost him valuable time and greatly restricted the water he could cover and how deep he was able to wade...

Thanks for the reply! Sorry I should have been more clear... jacket do you use for deep wading not PFD. However that is great info!

Here is something that I wish I had in Penn...Cat Crap anti-fog for my lenses. Nothing is worse than not being able to see during a session.

I'd also recommend that you carry a back-up fly rod for the stillwater session(s). I've had two fly rod break during the past few years - genrally attributed to a combination of unpredictable winds; sloppy backcasts; and heavily-weighted, beadhead patterns. I most recently broke one on Loch leven while casting a Humugus on a DI-7...

I don't leave home without a stripping basket if we have a lake session that you fish from shore or wade. Nothing worse than having your sinking lines around your ankles or under your boots if your wading. The one that I like is the William Joseph wading belt/stripping basket. Its a decent wading belt and the baske fit neatly out of the way inside the belt.
