Tiemco 3769 Hooks?

I was thinking of getting some of these hooks to try but I wanted to see if anyone else had an opinion on them yet. Do they hold fish good enough?

They are nice sticky hooks, but they're not very strong in the bend. Good for smaller fish but I think they're probably a bit too soft for larger species--ie not suitable for steelhead or salmon. I've run into problems with a few of the Tiemco and Daiichi hooks in this respect--only certain models.

I am really looking for a cheaper hook for French nymphs and other flies to that nature. Any ideas? I have used some Partridge hooks but they hook eye is too small for bead headed flies.

Down to what? 20?
If you want inexpensive, go Mustad. I use the Mustad R50s below #18. I have them down to 26, but 22 is about the lowest I've ever fished. They introduced the R50x barbless, and I see them at Cabelas at the same rice as the R50s, but I've never used them. They have a "perfect" bend, so beads slip on without issue.
I've found the R50s to be very strong, and unless I do something stupid (like snagging a tree stump) I've never had one open. I don't know if you play with wets much, but they are the perfect soft-hackle hook as well.
Maybe the only down-side vis-a-vis french nymphs is that the shank is just a titch shorter than most nymph hooks. Not a huge issue, but if you like a longer profile you might have to step up a size when selecting the hook.

The SP (Spear Point) points are great for sticking fish and holding them. The SP point acts like a micro barb.
Like Aaron said the SP points do seem soft in the bend but I have found it to be more of a problem with the 2499SP-BLs then these hooks. I got some new packs of 2499SP-BLs and they do seem to be stronger in the bend then early versions so Tiemco may have fixed the issue.
My only issue with the 3769 is the normal gape. I would prefer a 1.5 or 2x gape on my hooks.
I recently swtiched over to tying most of my nymphs on Hanak H200BL but you can only get them in #10-16.

I've had very good experiences with both the regular 3769 (trout & steelhead) and the SP-BL version (on trout). Due to the relatively short shank, you can tie a smaller nymph on a bigger hook, so you have both a nice hook gap and heavier wire. Win-win to me.

Mark,
How cheap? Have you checked out Jan's prices on Knapeks? If you buy some, please tell him Team Stonefly sent you.

The nymphs I let you have were tied on the 3761 spbl hook.
How did they work?
I have used them all summer with great success.
