Waterproof.. head to toe
« on: August 30, 2009, 05:11:23 PM »
One thing I discovered at Canadian Nationals is the advantage of being able to wade up to your ears brings on rivers.  Anthony Naranja uses a Simms Surfjacket, which basically makes him completely waterproof and able to wade and swim without care of filling his waders.  I went swimming to win my 2 river beats, but my waders would fill up and then I was carrying around an extra water logged heavy weight.  Simms discontinued their surf jacket line, but I've found links to some alternatives.

Actually, now that I come to think of it one of the Canadian competitors at Nationals in Boulder used this same setup on the lake to get where he needed to go.

I can really see the application but wow the colors you can get are not the best.

Exactly!!! The colors are horrible for stealthy fishing.  The Simms wasn't much better actually.

I guess if you have fall foliage you are ok! Or if you know you are working for stockers.  On bigger rivers the color might not matter much but you won't win and style points in your pics.

I wonder how well these types of fabric respond to being dyed. The Simms jacket was a funky blue, and every dry top you see is made for kayaking so high visibilty is the order in case you get trapped under the surface.
Seems you can mix a little dye up and drop these in and problem solved.

Columbia offers one in black (backpaddle jacket) which is the "stealthiest" one I've seen.  Here's the link for it.

That's not bad - I've always liked Columbia's clothing.  I've been very pleased with my Queets River Wading Jacket from them.  Usually reasonably priced too.
