Rule modifications for Slovenia 2012, longest leader 18 feet, and only one fly on that leader on the rivers and the lake :( :(

Heck, that's the way that I've been forced to fly fish the rivers and lakes here in British Columbia (we have a single fly only, province-wide angling regulation). I might have accepted the invitation to join our Canadian Team had I known that fact... :(

Thanks for the heads up. I knew the one fly rule was on the way but not the leader.

Lol! Maybe our rules have some application after all and aren't just a PITA here in BC!

Hi There,

In the UK up until a couple of years ago there were no competitions that were fished to Fips Mouche Rules.

Even now there isn‘t even a slack handful.

Now I am not trying to tell anyone how to run their competitions but would perhaps make these points.

At the lowest level of your competitions every single rule you have in place will reduce the numbers of anglers who enter.

At the top end of your competitions every deviation from Fips Mouche will make it just that bit harder  for your representatives to step up to the world stage.

The USA and Canada are making great progress thanks in no small part to everyone who contributes to this forum and in particular Dejon…………. you just have to keep it going.

Best Regards

robbie

Thanks for your input Robbie. Nice to get a perspective from the other side of the pond so to speak. I agree that Dejon's efforts here has really springboarded comp fishing forward. Down here in the South, we are not having any problems filling comp spots right now. There really seems to be a genuine interest here in learning these techniques and also competing. I do think it would help to relax some of the Fips rules though as a couple of others have pointed out. Micro rings and loop to loop would really cut down on waste as well as allow anglers quicker rig change outs. We should be aware of our impact on the fishery at all times and remember to be the best stewards of it. Other than that, I'm totally okay with all the other Fips rules and actually find them quite enjoyable. Now if I could just find a knot to replace my triple surgeons, I'd be a happy camper. Since going to the Davy knot for my flies, I find I lose my entire rig now when a snag up occurs due to the surgeons being the weakest knot in the rig. Micro rings would probably help this or a blood knot.

Thanks for your insight Robbie! I know that they allow barbed hooks in many of the competitions in the U.K., but what is the general consensus on allowing Thingamabobbers or splitshot for league competitions and competition fishing in general?

Cheers,
Todd

No egg flies allowed either.  No what's an egg fly and not an egg fly  ;)  My reading of it is that an egg fly has yarn in the dressing.  What's to stop angler's using dubbed bodies similar in colour to egg flies.  Would fritzy materials be allowed.  This will be an interesting one to police.
