Knot Practice?
« on: February 02, 2010, 11:32:00 AM »
I have read about the french team having daily knot practice and mini-competitions.  I even read they have a one handed knot for that extra few seconds of speed!  Does anyone have any knowledge of this and/or how to go about mimicking this?

thanks

I've heard this rumor too.  Seems like a good move. Everytime I come to a new knot I'll sit around with a spool of junk tippet and practice it for awhile.

I really need to work on some new knots. I'm emberrased to say that the only one I really use is the standard old fishing knot I learned when I was 7 years old. There is one other knot I'll use if the hook eye is big enough to slip the tippet through doubled up but yeah most of the time standard old fishing knot.  I wanna learn this one handed fishing knot that sounds cool.

ok so i typed in one handed knot in google and this is what comes up on the video results! What the heck! These guys are trolling for trout using zebco 33's HAHAHA!!!

Nick,

2 "new" knots I've been using are the "cleave knot" and, for lack of a better name: "clinch above overhand".

The cleave or "figure 8" knot, as much as I can discern, is basically just an extra turn on the "davy knot", but adds a tremendous amount of security. The davy knot was good for small flies, but didn't exactly snug down correctly on larger fly eyes.

The "clinch above overhand" is pretty simple and a great way to drop from say 15lb to 5x.

I need to do a video on these again, but I'm still working on the disclaimer and indemnity clause  :P

btw, I didn't watch the whole thing, and I can't put my finger on it, but there is just something so wrong about that video.

Does anyone know of any good websites with video on tying different knots? I have found diagrams but for some reason I am stuck on stupid when attempting to tie different knots. I think I need to watch what they are doing to get it down. Did the whole youtube thing but didnt find much.
