Ok, who's fishing them, which ones, and when?

Chris Smith, damn you, another thing to master....

Don't blame me...it's Dejon and the board who are to blame!

Seriously though, experiment with different types...large coils, small coils, heavier test, lighter test.  Just commit to fishing one for the entire day and don't put it away until you have a good feeling for where it's effective and where it's not.

Just another arrow in your quiver, although this is one I'll use more than others.

I use a coiled mono indicator almost all the time. Actually the only times I can think not to use one is when there is snow falling or when there is really bad sun glare. In those situations the barred backing is much easier to see. I always have a backing sighter with me just for those reasons.

I've made sighters out of all kinds of differnt materials and tried all kinds of differnt materials and you end up realizing everyones eyes are very differnt. I personally like 14lb Sufix Seige in Neon Tangerine but I've given people these sighters to use and some people can't see it. I just recently tried 15lb red Amnesia and liked it however one of Amnesias quailties is that it is memory free so this one gets a double boil double freeze. Which brings up a good point when picking out a mono to use the ones that claim to have a high abrasion resitance actually have more "memory" which is a good thing in this case. I think the most popular one is golden Stren which I've used and have no problems with but try a bunch because everyone will like something differnt.

Cough it up! You're not being very "coopy" :)

I'll throw my heavy 2cents in for coiled Sighters too. I pretty much fish them everywhere, all the time now.  Even when I switch to a dry/dropper the coil stays on.  The only time I don't have a coil on my leader is when I'm utilizing some very specific technique where I know I won't be changing rigs like: streamers, dry/dropper variations only w/ high wind, etc.  If you haven't all ready read through them check out these threads:

For those that might have a hard time seeing a coiled sighter try Brett Biships advice and build them out of 3 flourescent sections:

For a sighter, I am a fan of the slinky. My version is made up of three colors: Berkley Solar Collector green, Stren yellow and Cabelas pink fluro (Rasta colors). The yellow is coiled. For different situations, I carry it in different test combinations: 12,10,8; 10,8,6; and so on. This allows me to stay with in the FIPS rules and still have a set up that turns over whatever I want to tie on the end. I am currently experimenting with the length of the coil and overall sighter as well as the size of the coil itself.

I love the versatility of this setup...fish it long, or short...fish the slinky elevated or float it. It is all good.

No they do kick some serious butt!!  I know they really allowed Dejon and I to see gentle takes with big flies.  The proof is in the pictures that I am waiting on Dejon to post.  They excel with small nymphs but they really seemed to help with strike detection with the heavy nymphs.  I was not catching a darn thing when i was using a strait mono sighter I rolled a few but I was not able to connect with a solid hookup.   I switched over using the same flies with the Coiled indicator and within a few cast I was catching trout.  All kidding aside if you are not using them you really need to give them a try.

I've been using them for a few years now. I normally make my own, but just received a few samples that were sent from Karel Krivanec in the Czech Republic, and will post a review of them once I have a chance to give them a full workout. They look VERY impressive so far!

He also sent me a French Leader and a Czech Long Leader...
