I see Team USA has the most fish points after 3 sessions that is pretty cool.

This is weird for me, 12 months ago I couldn't spell Comp Fishing, now after fishing a couple of comps and judging these guys at Nationals, I am really interested and excited. I hit this place and the USA Facebook page every morning for any news....

Should be over or wrapping up the last session I'll bet since it's 6pmish over there.  Probably won't get final results until late tonight though.

Here's a report I read this morning:

"I know many of you are as frustrated as I am with the lack of info concerning the championships on the official website and elsewhere, so I took the liberty of phoning Howard (the team's reserve) for this update:

England lying in joint 6th with USA after three sessions (closer to the gold medal position than they were at this stage in 2009 when they went on to win)

The lake which produced scores into the teens of fish in the first couple of sessions is now a blank-avoidance sector...

The rivers, as always, are incredibly 'peggy' and were filled with stocked fish 12 days ago. Anglers drawing beats where the stockies are happy to reside for a while are having cricket scores whereas those with just wild fish in front of them are struggling.

All of which sounds incredibly familiar...

Usual suspects doing well, CZ and POL, with the notable exception of FRA who are well down in 9th place...

Come on lads, best of luck!

JT"

Another report from Team England's website:

"Early reports from the fourth session this morning say that the Czechs have hung onto their 1st place, while Italy have jumped three places into 2nd, with Poland remaining 3rd. England appears to have dropped out of the top ten."

Thanks for sharing Todd.

Why do they always stock trout like that is always makes for all the lopsided scores and beats that are so uneven.  Oh well it is what it is I guess.

I concur, the uneven stocking of trout right before a comp is a ludicrous practice.  I would think at the World Championship level this mistake would be completely non-existent.  Further, you think they would dole out World bids based on the legitimacy of prospective venues (wild & even).  But I digress.

Not long now.

This happens time and time again, but unfortunately it's the best system that they've come up with for rivers.

I understand the frustration, as I have had beats at past comps where not a single fish had been scored during 5 sessions (or very few). But, this is why it is considered a Team Sport, as the luck of the draw (or an unlucky draw) means that every team will have their share of bad beats as well as a few good ones.

This is why the best teams usually end up on top, year after year.

I've been on the downside of a draw a few times myself.  Par for the course.  Indeed, a great reason why this is much more a team sport than not.

Maybe I'm expecting too much, but it just seems with the ENTIRE world to choose from that they should be able to find at least 3 river venues with relatively even wild fish populations.  Spacing beats as much as necessary.  Anyhoot, easy for me to cast opinions from afar. I'm sure putting on this event is an organizational nightmare.

I did however think that performing the beat selection draw on the bus, while on-route to the venue, was a very fair method to ensure that everything is kept in order and as fair as possible for all concerned...

Arron and I have been chatting all day, here is what I know

Arron
Today's motto is whip that filly...4am up to get bus to Isarco..

me
Good luck today I'll send you Karma

Arron
Did not blank yet ...landed a monster 49.5cm hybrid and another barely counter....in the hunt.

Arron
Lol...got another tough beat...whose ass do I need to kiss to get a good beat...all my beats have been tough ones.   Devin and I are even at 2 each for beating each other...this is the tie breaker....daddy just needs one fish.
Slovaks and Czechs get the prime beats while I get beats that are serving up blanks and 1 or 2 fish

Me
You will find a fish in your beat, the fish gods are looking down on you, because your a good person and a great friend karma

Arron
No blank for Terrence this morning...so far as I know Canada has a clean record.

Arron
This one is a doozy....limited to one bank.  Deep.  Gonna whip that filly.  Just need to stay on my feet for 3.5 more hours then I can collapse into a coma.  Sitting on the bank doing the team song... Whip it...crack that whip....whip it good...my controller thinks I am loco

Arron
Done...no blank 3 fish...lost one at the end due to bad concentration.  Czech controller thinks I should rise in the standings

Me
That is great!! With all the hard work you put in and being a great teammate and good person, karma was on your side. I am truely inspired to strive to better my self, so that we can fish together at the big show!

Facebook report form Norman Maktima: "Had a good run for the first three sessions, was in second...but unfortunately blanked the lake, and ended 4th in my last session. Overall, finished in 12th place! Good job Lance (6th), Devin (11th), Anthony (36th), and Loren (73rd)!! Team finished in 5th, our highest finish...only five placing points from bronze, ugh...so close! Good work boys!"
