An Open Invitation to Attend our Canadian National Fly Fishing Championships
« on: October 03, 2011, 01:15:49 PM »
Due to a recent cancellation, 4 spots have become available for anyone looking to compete at our Canadian National Fly Fishing Championships later this month.  U.S. citizens are most welcome to attend and compete at this year's competition. This year's national championship will consist of 5 sessions being fished loch-style and in compliance with FIPS-Mouche rules. This is a rare and excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to learn more about this style of fishing and competion fishing in general. If you decide to register, you’ll be placed on a team with 5 other competitors, but are free to form your own team.

The competition will be held near Montebello, PQ at Fairmont Kenauk from October 17-22, 2011. If you have never been to Kenauk, it’s a beautiful spot that you won't want to miss at that time of the year. With approximately 100 square miles of wilderness; the "fishing is guaranteed to be fast and furious that time of year" according to FFC President Randy Taylor.

The venues will be:

Lac Otter (Lac de la Loutre)
Lac Mills
Lac Taunton
Lac Sugarbush
Lac Green (Lac Vert)

Feel free to ask your questions here or email me or for more information about this years upcoming competition, please visit the following sections of our website: http://www.flyfishingcanada.net/index.php

For more information about Kenauk, visit: http://www.fairmont.com/kenauk

Cheers,
Todd

This is a "must do" event for those able to attend. You'll meet a ton of great rods and some crackerjack loch style fishermen. Newbies should not be intimidated--the Canadian Nationals are a fabulous opportunity to learn and new entrants are always welcomed.

I heard there might be some affordable cabins for rent at the venue for teams? Do you have any info on these?  And what is the entry fee?  Thank you.

Thanks for the positive recommendation and support Aaron!

Dejon, the registration fees are $300.00 per competitor. The lakes are managed as quality fisheries and should provide a fishing experience of a lifetime...

There are cabins and hotels in and around the area. You'd be wise do a little research through Expedia, Kayak or cheaptickets.com for the best rates. Splitting a cabin or suite is definitely more cost effective in most cases.

Thanx Todd.  I thought there were some "event cabins" available.  My mistake.

I'll echo Aaron's post.  My experience at the 2008 Canadian National Championships in Mont-Tremblant was one of the best of my competitive life.  A great mix of "hardcore" and "laidback" energy. Whether you're there just to learn or take a crack at some of the best sticks in the world this is the event for you.

I don't think we'll be able to gather a "Freestone" team at this late stage of the game, but I'm sure tossing the idea around and would love to attend!

Especially since this is driving distance for many of us in the North East.

Feel free to send one or two of your team members or anyone else from this site that might be interested in attending. It's a great opportunity to learn how to fish loch-style and shouldn't be passed on if you're hoping to fish internationally one day (trust me as I learned the value of having a few extra loch-style events under my belt as well).

Hope to see this generate some interest and to meet some new folks at the nationals.

I would call Kenauk and see if they have cabins left for the FFC rates.

FFC has worked out discounted team rates for the week of the competition
(6 nights - in on Monday; out on Sunday).

*       $1,800 (or $60/day, or $360/wk, per person) for the smaller
cabins;
*       $2, 100 ($70/day, or $420/wk per person) for mid-sized;
*       $2,400 ($80/day, or $480/wk, per person) for large; and
*       $3,000 ($100/day, or $600/wk per person) for Pine.

Additional accommodations are available in the village of Montebello,
but none will match the beauty and experience of staying at Kenauk. It
truly is a special place.
