Favorite streamer rod?
« on: February 13, 2011, 05:34:22 PM »
I really want to do more streamer fishing this year and was wondering what make, size rod everyone likes. It will be used mostly for fishing in the North East streams like, the West branch, Farmington, Houssy etc....Thanks!

Frank, for rivers of that size I prefer a pretty solid 9'6" #6 or even #7.

Thanks Loren, any particular make that won't break the bank?

Winston's B2mx is a cannon.  Great rod for covering water, but pretty painful on the bank account.

I use an Orvis TLS that I really like, but the  entry and mid TFO's are great too (not the broomstick with the "x" in the model).  I think with a streamer rod you can take a bunch of things out of the equation and settle on a durable you that you can cast and are not scared to be rough with.   I can't afford the big stuff the these single kid-less kids can ;)

I have the 9' TFO TiCR w/o the fighting butt, works good for chucking double articulated streamers with a 240 grain 26' shooting head line. Works good enouph for me. That's for going after the big boys.

Yeah, I'd have to say TFO is a good choice for the price and warranty.  I really like to beat up my streamer rod; jabbing the point to the bottom of the stream and stumbling through the pitch black night.  I like a 9footer.

I second (or third) the 9' TFO TiCR.  Mine is the salt version with the fighting butt, and I like the balance that extension provides.  I think the heavier mass in a streamer rod is actually a benefit for throwing the big stuff.

I went for the lighter weight. Used it alot 2 years ago on the Little Red, White and Norfork rivers in AR, worked great. Not to mention had a nice bow on and he came out of the water and got off. Then the anger set in, good-bye went the rod tip and back to TFO if went. Luckly I had a 5wt I could use while I was waiting for the return. No more getting mad when the fish gets off!
