Perfection Loops: Uniform and Tiny
« on: February 26, 2011, 08:42:44 AM »
Here's another tip for you, related to leader construction.  I saw this device on a UK web-site, so I just built one in my garage.  When making loop-to-loop connections, I think the knot is strongest when the loops are the same size.  This results in a square knot where they intersect.  It always bothered me that loops are tricky to make small and uniform.  The gadget is called the "Loop Tyer."

I made this one:

First, tie your Perfection loop loosely like this

Slide the two large loops over the pegs like this

Snug everything up

Then slide the mono off the small peg and tighten the loop on the large peg

I used Sufix Neon Tangerine so I hope you can see the mono.

I just made 3 loops and they are exactly the same size.  On the other side of my pine disc, I placed two more pegs closer together.  This gives me a loop that is only 1/4in high.  I used finish nails for the pegs, and cut off the heads.

You can do the same thing with a Triple Surgeon's Loop knot, but the Perfection Loop is best since it results in a straight connection.

Hope this is a helpful tip for you.

Very Nice.
I use Perfection loops when I attach my tippet piece for striper.
Thanks for sharing.
