Guess I have to get the Sage 10' Z axis. I'm starting to do dry dropper techniques this year. More $$$ to shell out...

I recently test cast the Echo 10.5ft 3wt and 11ft 4wt against the Sage 10ft 4wt Z-Axis rod.

My purchase was the Sage Z-Axis,,,,,, much lighter in the hand and would cast light leaders easily.

The Echo rods felt like heavy stiff rods in comparison.

I fished my sage XP 9ft 5wt (2 piece) for years. It was my work horse rod, I used it for everything.  During a practice in February  however I broke the end section and was left wondering "what am I going to do now..i have other rods I can use, but none that I really like enough to rely upon for comps" so I started looking into other rods and I spent a lot of time going to various shops and casting rods I thought may take the place of my XP while it was being fixed.  Needless to say I was left disappointed with most every rod I was able to cast.  Until I read an article on the new Z-axis series and how they were so versatile, responsive, and delicate enough to cast drys.  I was planning on getting an echo, but the second I picked up the z-axis I was hooked.  It was able to cast exactly like my XP and with the added extra ft it was the perfect rod for my nymphing needs.  I bought my z-axis through farbankpros.com and saved a lot of dough.  Now that Ive got my XP back I have the only 2 rods ill prob ever need.  I would strongly suggest getting the Z-axis.  It's extremely lite, delicate, and has enough backbone to haul the big boys in. You wont be disappointed in the purchase.  The sage Z-axis rocks

FYI, the Z-Axis is being discontinued. Some of the fly shops are already starting to run specials on them.

Unicoi Outfitters here in Georgia ran some specials recently at the The FFF Southeastern Flyfishing festival that was here in Georgia this past weekend. I don't know if they have any left, but you could give them a call at their Helen, Ga shop at (706) 878-3083. I'm not sure if they deal long distance, but I'd be willing to bet that they would.
