Shadow vs. Streamflex
« on: December 13, 2011, 02:11:07 PM »
For any of you guys that have fished the 10ft 3wt Echo Shadow and 10ft 3wt streamflex (the original one), how do these two rods compare? I own the shadow and it's my primary rod. I fished a 10ft 3wt streamflex once and seems like it was more sensitive and "floppy" than the shadow, and the shadow seems to have more backbone and a bit faster tip, this was before I really knew what I was doing so it may or may not be true. I have found a streamflex for cheap, and am thinking about getting it to have another Euro rod. If they are pretty much the same rod, I don't want to waste the money. Any thoughts?

I think Aaron Laing evaluated the two, based on his personal fishing styles.  He talked about it in a past thread.  Here's a little of his opinion for the difference.

"The rod (Echo) has a very soft tip section, progressing into a fairly robust butt section. I find it's a very visual rod and I need a bit more tactile contact. It's a great rod, just not for my current style of fishing."

I think he was comparing the 10'6" Echo to the 10' Streamflex when asked, similar to you.  He had both rods at the time.

I haven't tried the Streamflex myself, but I do agree that the Echo has a fair bit of backbone.

I think it's always going to be a matter of personal choice, and very subjective.  I can't really assess a rod myself unless I have it in hand and fish it for a day or two.  A friend is getting a Streamflex soon and I'm hoping to borrow it one day for evaluation... :)

I have both rods and broken both rods. The streamflex is definitely more durable.
