Percentage of Your Time Spent Stillwater Fishing?
« on: March 10, 2010, 05:25:18 PM »
1) I was just curious as to how many of you fish stillwaters, and what percentage of your fishing is spent on stillwaters versus rivers & streams?

2) If you do fish lakes, what do you use to keep your head above the water (jon-boat, drift-boat, float-tube, pontoon-boat, kayak, surf board, etc...)?

I personally fish stillwaters for approximately 40% of my total hours spent on the water, and prefer to fish from my 12 foot fly-fishing kayak or my 12 foot Lund wide-hull aluminum boat (love to stand and sight-cast to moving targets).

I have a few float-tubes and pontoon-boat, but they rarely see the water these days. How about the rest of you?

I fish stillwaters at least 3 days a week from late March-early July, after that on most lakes I have ready access too the trout are dead or way too deep.  You guys up north, and my pals in the west have it made. You guys also have lakes that only have trout!!!

The lake I fish most is quite difficult--very large and very clear.  You learn a lot.

I fish Loch Style from my 14-foot Starcraft, wychwood drogue slows it down, and I have a 15 HP outboard and an electric motor to speed it up.

Todd,  I can't remember and I am too lazy to dig up the results--did you fish with Team Canada in the 2007 Oceanias?

No, I wasn't at the Oceanias, but I did meet you at the 2005 WFFC in Sweden. Hopefully our paths will cross sometime in the near future!

I've never fished a fly rod from a boat but it is something on my to do list this season.  I am so new o this that I really don't want to overwhelm myself.  I want to get a good handle on the streams first.

Todd,

I only ever fish Loch Style and always within international rules, I have the odd days Salmon fishing now and then.  This allows me to remain in tune with the competition  venues week by week.

Todd,

I have fished the Tay a few times but I normally fish the Spey or the Dee.
