Our local fly shop (Ottawa, Canada) sells the foam eyes in packages of 6.  They are pretty expensive considering they are just foam but they come in come in a couple sizes and a variety of colors.  The company that distributes them is an American company http://www.rainysflies.com/foamproducts.php out of Utah.

seach ebay for "booby eyes"  it will give you a brit company that does a nice job.  They are pre packaged cylinders of various colors in size 6mm and 8mm.  Much cheaper than the rainys option.  and the closed cell foam is nice.

Rainey's eyes look great but they are too stiff/hard.  I really feel that the allure to boobies is that they are so soft (did I just say that?). My teammate Mike Sexton may be able to hook you up with awesome precut foam cylinders.  I'm not into handing out email addresses but he should not be too hard to track down.

I got some eyes off of ebay out of the UK that really seem to work great.  They are soft yet not floppy.  (LMAO that really sounds bad)

So what you guys are saying is, firm boobies are a bad thing???  :P

If you were to find a type of foam with the right "firmness" ( ;D ) couldn't you just punch out cylinders to use for the eyes? Does the rounded edges make much difference?

you could but most standard closed cell foam I have found is way to stiff.

I prefer them firm but get more action when they are soft :)

I feel that rounded edges provide superior retrieves and less line twist.

Thanks for the laughs this on this one Loren.  Any tips on rounding the boobys I am having a heck of a time not making them lopsided or uneven.

See if you can find a Dave Downie video on boobies---he trims his boobies the same way I do.  To roughly explain:  I tie the fly then I take the edges off by trimming them toward the middle (at right angles).

Hi There,

Here is a step by step on Booby Eyes.

http://www.gameangler.eu/php3/viewtopic.php?p=48410&sid=24145ddc24371e6d853305918bf60979

Mind you I do not know why anyone would want to tie one.......

They never catch a thing.

Worst fly ever.

Never used one myself......... :-)

Best Regards

Don’t think of the boobie as simply a big glaring fritz.  You can tie  small buzzers, crunchers etc all with eyes.  You will be amazed how many fish prefer this fly compared with your natural offering.

You're on a roll Ronnie!  Great advice all around.  If I could be so bold do you have any pics?  If not no worries.  This has really got me thinking I need to get some good boobie foam in some different gauges.  I'm writing this one on my tying list so I don't forget :)
