Fall brown trout flies
« on: October 29, 2010, 05:19:36 PM »
Hi guys I'm planning on going fishing for some early fall browns in southern PA. And last year I didn't have much success. I have seen some browns in the mid 20 inch range so if you have some successful flies you'd like to share I would be very thankful it.

Standard Disclaimer: "please don't fish to active breeding fish, fish on redds, fish paired up."

Egg flies are a must like small suckerspawn, glowbugs, etc.  Smaller darker caddis and midge patterns.  I have great success with various streamer patterns too for picky big, territorial trout like that - marabou and squirrel concoctions in olive, brown, and rusty orange.

As with all trout... presentation, not the fly is 95% of the game. (Dejon Hamann, 2010)  ;D

would not be without egg patterns , especially with the egg vail on em , egg sucking leech streamers , black maribou tail and wrapped up shank , tie off and put on an orange egg or small nymphs , make sure to get down !

Thanks a lot guys that should be a huge help. I've seen them starting to congregate near a small trib. of the creek.

Right now for me the Barron tied by Loren Williams is working great for browns, along with an egg pattern.

This is Lorens website with the tutorial on how to tie the Barron.

                   Hi Guys
I think the small eggs or Micro eggs if you prefer and small nymphs 18- 20 in the brown or I use a small yellow which works well. O and get down is good advice.

                                                                                    Best

                                                                                  John
