What are your Goals in 2010
« on: March 04, 2010, 04:02:58 PM »
I have been thinking more and more as warm weather approaches what I want to work on an accomplish dealing with fly fishing in 2010.

I got a short list and I thought this might get some of the other member on the board to share as well.

1: Become a better stillwater angler.
2: Competed in at least one US Regional Qualifer
3: Fish more unfamiliar water
4: Continue to improve my Wet Fly Fishing.
5: Work on improving my Euro Nymphing tactics
6: Compete in the US Nationals
7: Improve upon my streamer fishing techniques

That is about all that I can think of for now.  So what are is everyone else shooting for?  What tactics do you want to improve upon

1 - Work on becoming a more rounded angler!
2 - Try to become a little less rounded in my mid-section...

3 - Spend a little more time exploring the banks of my local rivers and its tributaries!
4 - Try to be a little more honest with my employees whenever I tell them that I am heading up town to "do a little banking"...

5 - Try to spend a little less time fishing and focus more time and effort on "family vacations"!
6 - Purchase fishing map-books that include information on nearby resorts and campgrounds...

7 - Work on trying to be a little more honest and accurate when posting stories or making journal entries about the size of the fish I've been catching lately!
8 - Remember to leave my tape measure and camera back at home whenever I sense that the fishing might be a little slow or difficult...

9 - Try to be a little more creative in my fly tying and while experimenting with new materials!
10 - Get the kids another rabbit, as our other one seems to be lonely and seems to have developed a rather unusual case of mange...

Other than these targets... it's all good in my books!  ;D

Euro nymph less

What's wrong with euro nymphing? I suspect it's taking up too much of your time and the other skills are fading...

Simple:  Earn a selection to the 2011 World Championship team, represent my country well, and contribute to a trip to the podium.

The 2011 WFFC should be a great competition Loren! I am hoping to qualify for a spot on Canadian Team as well.

Best wishes for a strong showing at this year's trials and nationals. I hope to see you and the rest of the team at Italy's competition!

Thanks Todd!  Best of luck to you as well--I love it when you guys are on the roster!

My journey will be tough, as you know there are many fine anglers up for the limited slots available.  You try and you try.  I often feel amazed that I ever do well in a session with the level of competition we have.

John,

Nothing wrong with Euro nymphing, I'd say day in and day out its the most productive way to catch trout in a river there is. The problem for me is when you fish this way 90% of the time you fish it gets a little mind numbing and you need to do something to spice things up a bit. I'm hoping full sinking lines and deer hair streamer will be the ticket for me.

Learn more on the wet fly side
Meet some new people
Give back what ever I can

Great topic mark.

A. Make sure at least 2 fun filled Family Vacations happen in 2010.
B. Fish more with my son.

I. Strengthen the TroutLegend Coop & support it's member's causes
II.  Continue to build the TroutLegend Forum and find new cutting edge ideas and members.
III.  Build Team Troutlegend to a cohesive medal worthy unit.

1. Drive longer distances to fish different water. (5 hour roundtrip in one day? No problem.)
2. Study Spey for Steelhead
3. Finalize my "do it all" Euro Leader/Indiator setup.
4. Study Streamers for Trout
5. Use new Pontoon Boat to further refine Loch Skills and mastery of my sinking line arsenal

= Life is Short.  Have Fun.

My goal is to relax, and spell the roses. At the end of every outing. I post in my mind the last fish landed. And thank God for his blessings. You never know when your last fish will come?
