Greetings from Alberta, Canada
« on: February 16, 2011, 01:09:59 AM »
Hello to all,

I stumbled upon this site while searching nymphing techniques something I have been trying hard to improve. I started fly fishing on rivers but fell in love with lakes soon after. Being away so long I lost some ability to read water so I have been taking the time to get back to the flow. Nothing better than a little practice. It is cold and snowy here as it is most winters, every once in a while it will warm up  and I will make a quick trip to places like the Crowsnest or bow river and if I have a little extra time I will go to the Elk in Fernie B.C.

Been fishing the competitions since 2007 when the Canadian nationals came to Grande Prairie Alberta. Being close to some of the lakes I had become addicted too I gave it a try and was hooked finishing 11'th. I've since hooked up with a great group of individuals to form a strong team that does well at every competition. I love fishing with them as the flow of information passes freely and richly amongst us. These gents have finished high in the standings every year and through association my angling is improving as I learn to correct the tiniest mistakes I never even knew I was making. The learning curve is always steep but I am coming along and finished in 7'th at out last Nationals one fish out of the medals. It is a little frustrating fishing one competition a year but there is not a lot of opportunity here in Canada to do this sort of thing. This why I am looking forward to competing at the Americas cup this year. A chance for some good experience in an incredible place.  Looking forward to discussing the biz and maybe even fishing with you. Take care.

Nicely said Jason!  Nice to see you onboard as well.

Couldn't agree more about the mutual learning that takes place... and need for more events!  Cripe!

Welcome Jason, there are a few of us Canadians on here, as far as come goes D and the rest of TL put on comps all season, I know there are a few in the west, also look in to North American Lake Series NALS for short, there are few. Arron Ivo and I are heading to the NE Regional at the beginning of march. I also have sent Randy Tylor an email to send a team to the US Nationals, send him one two. You'll find these is place with the most up to date in NA on comp fishing.

Welcome to the site Jason. You just about summed up why the competitive fly fishing scene is so much fun right there.  Glad you found the site - spread the word to your compadres so more anglers with this odd little "bug" can benefit from the generosity of knowledge sharing here.

I'll see you at the Cup.

Thank you for the warm welcome folks if you ever find yourself in the province give me a heads up as I am always looking to share some of the spots mentioned with good anglers. My favorite little jaunt when I'm down in Crow country (July/August) is to hike in 3 hours into the high country for Golden Trout . They are rarely big but they are a jewel and you cannot beat the location. No trout angler is complete until catching one and I always enjoy the company so let me know.
