Greetings From Franklin, PA
« on: February 21, 2011, 08:35:03 PM »
Greetings all,
A buddy of mine let me know about this site.  I'm extremely impressed with all the info on here and look forward to the possibility (and that's a stretch) of contributing, but definitely to learning.   Anyways, hello and glad to be aboard!

Thanks, Gents!

Alain,  Basically from the center to the west.  But primarily Oil Creek, Sugar Creek and Little Sandy.  Hemlock Creek and Big Sandy are favorite haunts, as well.  I do love the Allegheny tailwaters @ Kinzua with a passion!

Welcome to the site Jamie, good to have you here.

Do you fish the main branch of the Allegheny much?  Mark has been saying it's big water but has evolved into quite a trout fishery.

welcome to the site , dejon the upper allegheny is where jim bashline used to slam the big boys at night on wet flys. I haven't fished the allegheny much except for the tailwaters below the dam. There are some huge browns and rainbows in there. the state has been planting fingerlings in the allegheny for years but how many get gobbled up by walleye and pike i don't know. probably try to spend a little more time on it but its hard because of the lack of great hatches.

Thanks, all!

Mark- Always a pleasure, my friend.

Dejon-
It's big water and can get a bit sketchy when they are releasing, but for the most part 2200cfs is about enough.  It is defo turning into a good trout fishery.  Jim's spot on, there are some monsters lurking in those churning waters.

is it wadeable or mostly drift driven?  2200cfs is a monster.

I'm scared of that river above 1700... Jamie you are a beast at 2200!!!  I wanted to go with Jim 2 weeks ago; the release was 1350, but the roads were pure ice and we were put off by the conditions.

2200 is an interesting go. It's definitely doable, but 1300-1700 is more like it. I want to hit it again soon. Real soon.
