Hello from Cache Valley, UT

Hello All. My name is Chad Mano, from Cache Valley, UT. I taught myself to fly fish while in college about 15 years ago. I know there are some who look down on people like me, but I decided to learn after seeing "The Movie." I didn't know anyone who had ever fly fished, but it looked fun. After many days of driving up the canyon so I could stand in the river and untie knots, I accidentally caught a fish, and have loved it ever since. I've learned a lot roaming the forums recently. I don't know if I'll every have anything valuable to contribute, but I'll try.

I hope I'm still welcome as I've never entered a competition, and I'm not sure I ever will, but I need to start learning about it because my son hit an age where he's really getting interested in fly fishing, and became pretty intrigued at the possibility of competing. He's still pretty young, probably a few years away from being able to do that, but we'll be learning together.

We read some things a while back in the local paper about Lance Egan and Devin Olsen, and that's what initially piqued his interest. I did some googling around about competitions and found out about a clinic for youth this last spring that was just down the road from us. So we're excited about the opportunities around us for him (and me) to learn. Looking forward to getting involved.

Welcome - from the other side of the US!

I have been here for less than a year, fished a few Comps and have loved every minute of it. You will find a great deal of info on techniques, equipment and competitions just by reading what others have already learned. Look for a regional or "mini-comp" to try, I learned a lot being a controller.....
