Intro of a frustrated weekender
« on: December 01, 2010, 06:10:06 PM »
Howdy all -

I am a "newly reacquainted to fly fishing (after a 15-ish year hiatus) get away every second" I can Guy. Let me tell 'ya, twin 4 year olds can really cut into a guy's fishing time ! I look forward to the day we can all get on the stream together as a family.

I don't have any real aspirations of competing at this point, however I cannot thank you all enough for the wealth of information you have put together providing an amateur fumbler such as I the steepest of learning curves possible whilst pining away for time on the water.

I live 5 minutes from Worcester Massachusetts and have a few marginal trout streams and one large reservoir (Wachusett, bank fishing only) within an hour so I can get my fix pretty readily. What I have found is that while the approach to catching trout on the fly has evolved, presentation is still tantamount to success. Your shared knowledge has reinforced that tenet for me and continues to guide me in the evolutionary process. Now, if I could just learn to walk upright without tripping over my tail....

Dadda, why do you don't just catch the fish that is swimming in front of us ?

Thank you for the kind words Scott. It's the contributions of a community like this that make it all possible.

Twin 4 year olds!   My children are the most important things in my life.  Before they were born I had no idea what I wanted to do or become... unfortunately, now I have no time to do it.

Great to have you on board.

I have two boys.  A 5-yr old and a 3-yr old.  I understand the imprtance of them you speak of!  And I look forward to many great days of fishing with them (though they probably won't want to hang out with me when they turn 10!).  Hopefully my 5-yr old will be attending a fly tying session with me again tonite.  It's fun watching him tie up some crazy fly pattern.

Thanks guys, yes the kids are very special and it's probably toughest on my wife as she has to raise three of us now !
My girls and I caught a native brookie last year on my birthday (GRHE variant) using my 7-1/2' Fenwick fiberglass. Myself casting and each taking turns on the retrieve. They also enjoy watching me tie.
Great fun.
