Introduction from WNC
« on: July 19, 2011, 03:17:20 PM »
This site was recommended to me recently and I have to say: I have learned a ton of information in a very short period.  I am in Western NC and have been fly fishing for about 10 years.  Trout fishing is my bread and butter, but I have been known to go after bass, panfish, redfish, bonefish, or whatever else I can find.  However I will be the first one to admit that most of the time, I am better at fishing than I am catching.

Since I am always looking for something better (at least when it comes to fishing), some of things I have seen here are extraordinary.  Very out of the box, which I totally dig.  I think there is little question that I will take away a lot more than I can give back.

Thanks for having me.

Welcome aboard Chris! We'd love to have you join us for a mini sometime.  It's a great way to watch a fellow angler fish then practice a bit yourself.

Another option is to volunteer as a controlleer for one of the comps. I was fortunate to be a controller at the SE regional and the Nationals. It gave me encouragement that I was on the same page as the top anglers on reading the water while showing me how effeciently I needed to fish those waters. It really helped me on my first comp I entered.

Welcome Chris.  I had the pleasure of fishing with Chris over the weekend.  He was interested in learning more about the Euro style so I figured I would help him out.  Like Chris said he can fish he just wants to learn more and different styles.  He will get hooked like the rest of us.

It was a good time.  Seth was very helpful with the basics of the Euro style and very tolerant of me standing or fishing right on top of where he was.  I generally don't do that but I didn't want to miss anything.  Seeing it in action is a lot different than on the internet.  Now I have this little seed growing in the back of my mind about entering a comp one day...after lots more practice.

Paul,

To answer your question, I am in Hendersonville so my home waters are in that neck of the woods.  I fish the Davidson a fair bit because it is close.  I also get on the delayed harvest waters a decent amount but not much after they open up to keeping fish.  Occasionally, I venture a little further: Cherokee, Nantahala, Tuckaseegee, etc.  I would love to meet up some time.

Chris,

What is a mini?  I am just starting to learn some of these new fangled ideas.

Thanks for the welcome.

My apologies.  A mini-comp.

We get 14-24 guys together, then fish two 1 1/2 hour sessions.  You judge a session, then fish a session, then fish again, then judge again.

It's a great way to watch a fellow angler attack the water.

Chris,

The mini sounds cool.  I am not even close to being on a competition level but I would like to see it.  Of course, if it is an informal sort of thing and I don't take a spot from someone more deserving...I might be convinced to give it a try.  Geez...like just fishing isn't enough, now I am thinking of competing.  This forum is going to be bad for my marriage.

If you happen to be up my way and you don't mind, I might just watch you from a distance.  I learned on Sunday that I can get a whole lot of good information just from watching a pro.
