Great board with lots of good information. I hope to make a meaningful contribution to it. Its great to see familiar names and faces along with their thoughts and opinions.

My favorite stillwater is now legal to fish year round!! It used to close Dec 31 and open in May. It is my favorite because it only freezes during the coldest of temps and even then it opens again soon. But having the rule closure was kind of a bummer. But I just found out that the DWR accepted keeping it open.

Went out today and found the standard slow deep water techniques working well but also tried a 'static' presentation on a midge tip (higher in the column). Worked very well. I wanted to try this static technique because of the success I have had on slow moving waters. Getting ready for Nationals in Pennsylvania keeps paying off. Its the same stuff I was working on before going there (except on stillwater!!)

Great to have you here Kurt.  I'm pretty spoiled as many of the good river systems in my area are open 12 months a year. Same with the lakes, but unfortunately mother nature requires an auger at least 3 months out of every year.

All right, I'll bite :)  What kind of "static technique" did you utilize in Nationals that works on stillwaters too?

Welcome to the forum Kurt.

I wish there was some was some open water to fish in PA on the lakes now.  It has been a tuff winter in the NE.

Welocme Kurt. It is nice to see that you are equally as passionate about stillwaters! I look forward to hearing about your adventures and for your contributions on this board.
