Czech Nymphs
« on: December 14, 2010, 03:27:34 PM »
Hey guys...I'm working to fill a box with Czech Nymphs. I was wondering if I could have your input on sizes and color schemes. Right now I have light pink with a dark pink hot spot czech nymph. and tan and dark brown czech nymph and olive and black czech nymph. I was looking on line and saw tons of different colors; however, I don't want to waste my time tying them if they aren't going to catch fish.

So what color schemes do you guys use and also what size do you make them....right now I have 10, 12 and 14 of the above color schemes.

Input is greatly appreciated.

It's all about angles. A good angle creates a good presentation which in turn puts more fish in the net.

I stick to any colors that you normally see caddis or scuds being.  The off the wall colors work pretty well for stockers.  Olive is about my best producer in the streams I fish.  Size I usually use them in size 14 to size 8.  It is amazing how well the bigger sizes often work pretty well.

I agree with Mark. Stick to the natural colors with small hot spots for wild fish.

Nick I like how thin the last two are they should sink quickly. If they are weighted are you using flat lead. The first one is green and hard to make out because it is wet is that fur?

                                                              Good post

They are all weighted using flat lead. The first one is dubbed using olive czech nymph dubbing from fly tying specalties. I use that dubbing for all kinds of nymphs.

Kalvin, your right hoovers really don't work..must have been delirious.  ;)

Czech nymph was tied on a CZ partridge hook. Love that hook for czech nymphs.

Besides color, concentrate on weights of them too. You'll need lots of them in 1.5-3 gram range. However you will need some CZ's in much heavier weights too. My heaviest stuff weighs 11-12 grams and are tied on size 2 Gamakatsu Drop Shot hooks used in bass fishing. I dont really expect to catch many fish on these, some times I do, but I use them mainly for getting other flies deep enough to hit ol' satan in the head.
