Dejon, I did not know if you wanted this in the comp section or not but this is one fish producing streamer so I'll throw it up here as it was designed then we can add the changes made for the comp!
Lil History and credit; Long story short came home from a long trip overseas and made contact with a guy in Utah that I would hook up with, fish some beautiful water, catch some very large browns and in the end developed a lasting friendship! Corey Kruitbosch designed this pattern and if you talk to him, he says he is not that good a tier and this was a simple pattern that had the profile of a sculpin and lots of flash! What Cor may lack at the bench (his opinion NOT mine) he more than makes up for behind the lens!!! You wont find him boasting or bragging, and you will never hear him chest thumping or talking down in any way shape or form. What you WILL get is an honest, humble UT boy that can fish his ass off shoot FISH PORN like Hef himself! If I had to guess he has been published 35-40 times this year alone! You will find him in Catch, This is Fly, Drake, Korkers website, Brodin catalog....the list goes on!!! If you get a chance and want to look at some quality shots;
http://western-fly-fishing.info/wordpress/about/
click on the flicker and look till you cant stand any more!
OK enough of that now for the goods!
Material List:
Hook - size 2 4xl
Thread - Black
Eyes - I-Balz 1/4" Gold (Spirit River)
Note: Helps to Zap-A-Gap a good thread base
Tail - Olive Marabou
Rib - Peacock Palmer Chenille (Spirit River)
Body - Holographic Cactus Chenille (Hareline)
Legs - Sili Legs Metallic Green fleck
Straight Forward Instructions:
a. Secure hook, mount eyes (I space them about 4 hook eyes distance back from the eye also apply glue to thread base), tie in marabou tail
b. Tie in palmer chenille and the cactus chenille, wrap thread to mid shank and secure sili legs (I fold the single long sili leg in half and bind to hook advance thread about 1/4" and do the same for next set)
c. Wrap cactus chenille forward and X over the eyes (adds some bulk to the head) the follow with the palmer chenille (pulling the fibers to the rear as you wrap forward)
Finished Pattern:
I think Dejon will post a few pics of the exact fly that I tied up for the comp.
Modifications made:
1. While you could pinch down the barb, we went with a Knapek S 4 (streamer)
2. To comply with comp rules - a 4mm bead is the largest permitted
3. Using that hook and shorting the tail a bit made for a desired overall smaller profile. Numbers is the name of the game here and not searching for 20" Brutes.
As mentioned this is a very good pattern designed by a great guy. ENJOY!

That's what I'm talking bout! Gotta order me up some of that Palmer chenille in various colors soon.
Moving to patterns section so we can keep them all tidy and organized.

I agree that is a beaut. I bet it would house some serious smallies also in a brownish/orange. Good tie and backstory.

Nice pattern! It has all the features of a great pattern (it is unfortunate that dumbells can't be used for competitions and beads over 5/32" are not allowed).
Here's a fly tying video/demonstration that I made of one of my own patterns (filmed it for the kids in our local fly fishing club), which is somewhat similar to yours.
This is pattern is one of my most productive patterns that I have been using for quite a few years for Coho Salmon in the ocean and rivers, and performs very well for trout in stillwaters and river. This pattern helped me to win the Individual Gold at our 2005 NFFC, where I took the largest salmon in the river venue (biggest fish of the entire competition) and the largest salmon on a beach fishing venue in the Pacific Ocean.

You guys had ocean beach beats in a Nationals??? That's just crazy... and totally awesome!!! Not to hijack the thread, but please do tell me a bit about how that went down and what you used?
PS (I'm surprised an Aerosmith attorney hasn't contacted you
