Cutthroat Summers

 I'm fortunate enough to live in a part of Canada's west coast in an area with a great population of resident cutthroat literally in my backyard.  The area is a high traffic area for dragon boaters, kayaking, salt water taxi's and the waterway has been long since written off by anglers and the public as 'fishable waters'--however in the evening and when the time and tides are right, it gives up some phenomenal opportunities for some absolutely awesome dry fly cutty action.  My favorite way to stalk these guys is spot casting to feeding fish along the banks with a big bushy dry fly, using a small #4 switch rod and a long belly line with a taper that allows both overhand and spey casting, as well as quick pick up yet delicate presentation at both distances and close in.
