Guys, www.cherokeesmokies.com, fisheries and wildlife, and the NC Team has teamed up to provide 3 competitions for 2012 that will each pay 10 thousand dollars in prize money. Thats 30 thousand dollars in payouts for fly fishing! I can assure you the wife will not mind competition as much if you bring home some loot. In addition to these we intend to continue with our summer mini comp series as well as a few other comps that are in the planning stage now. With that said here are the dates we are looking at:

2012-Feb 3-5 Shiver in the River Comp 225 entry. 10k to win.

2012-May 18-20 Meet me in the smokies fly fishing tournament 225 entry 10k to win.

2012 Rumble-November 2, 3, 4. 225 entry 10k to win. Fips Mouche. Tag in and out anytime you want

Yeah, when you get a chance some details on the format would be great Paul. I suspect they're all 2 person, tag-team, elimination style events right?

yeah the site is going live in the next few days. you guys are the first to know about these. they are team events. ill keep you updated as things develop. there are some great things in the works for next year. the cherokee boys hope to attract some international anglers. id hope with fat pay outs they should.

Absolutely Michael. You can register at www.connectthesmokies.com. They are on the catch and release section of the Raven Fork river in Cherokee NC. They are fips mouche river sessions. You fish with a partner but you can tag anytime. Typically its your 9 biggest fish that tou score. If you cull a fish you cant take it back. If you guys decide to come over let me know. Ill help arrange lodging and we can go wade or float the river.

These pay through 3rd place. 5k for first, 3k for 2nd, 2k for 3rd typically unless something changes in the mean time.

Im surprised more people arent jumping on the chance to win some serious dough.

The "honey i just won 5 grand" is alot better than "honey im buying a plane ticket/motel room/fishing license to qualify to go to another tournament thats even farther away" is alot easier sell....but I understand

I wish I could do the first event Paul. New job has me in Outage the whole month of Feb and part of March. It's why I'm also missing the SE regional. I should be able to do the meet me in the smokies in May though. Have fun guys, cause it fishes well in the winter. Some of my best days have been in Feb over there.

Well said Bourcq! A chance to make cash is a lot better than no chance at all. Definitely helps me a lot too though that this tourney is in my back yard, plus in the Shiver in the River Comp I get the chance to actually partner up with my lady. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Shiver. Its going to be a good one!

All 3 are sanctioned as Hybrids.

Just spoke with Matt. Same deal as the Rumble. 15 beats. Random Draw. each session the field gets eliminated in half. Fips rules, you can tag in and out anytime you want. Top 9 fish. If you cull one its gone. You must decide to keep it or not before it released. 225 per team. As of right now only 3 teams are signed up. So competition is thin right now. Sign up at

Spoke to Robert in the shop today. Still have room for more teams for the Shiver in The River Comp. If you can make it, it will be well worth it to have a shot at winning 5,000 for the the top finishing team.

You can email the Tournament directior, Matt Pegg, at matt@cherokeesmokies.com. Im sure he would be glad to help you out with everything you need to know. I think it would be awesome to have yourself and a partner down to fish the upcoming tournament. As far as the way the Competiton breaks down, the goal is for 30 two man teams to be divided into two groups, on group will fish Saturday morning (Feb. 4th) and the other group saturday afternoon, 3 hour sessions. 15 beats. After Saturday fishing those 30 teams will be broken down to the top 15 finishing teams from that first day. On Sunday morning the remaining 15 teams will fish a 3 hour session on the same 15 beats. After the morning session those 15 teams are broken down to the top 7 teams. The Top seven teams will then fish the Sunday afternoon session for the Championship. On that final session due to the fact there are 7 teams and 15 beats, each team has the opportunity to fish 2 connecting beats just for the final session. Before every session the team beat assignments are drawn from a hat. The order in which the teams get to draw their beat number is determined prior to the beat draw by another random drawing of a number from a hat. On Friday (Feb. 3rd) there is a Competiton meeting which explains everything. Only one of the team members must attned this meeting in order to draw which group( A or B) they will begin fishing with on Saturday. Everything else I am sure Matt Pegg can help you out with.
