Good choices!  I really have a hard time picking one beer.  I am not a fan of light stuff.

It really depends upon the occasion, but lets just break down some of my favorite fishing brews.

If I'm poor and on the road: PBR.
Hot summer days on a spring creek: Corona and Lime.
Camping on a freestone and wine will follow: Stella Artois.
Something to accompany Whiskey or Scotch on a Float Trip: Guinness and Bass.
Any time he has a batch: My buddies cheery wheat stout.
Deep winter Steelheading: Beer doesn't fit... 20 year Tawny Port or Mead.
Everyday fly tying  get togethers: whatever you bring over!
Dry Fly sessions with Japanese clients: Sapporo and Unfiltered Saki.
Getting my wife to listen to my fishing tales: Cosmos.
To follow fresh Salmon Dinner on an Alaskan River: Peche' Lambic
Same old shit I drink everyday because my lotto numbers never go through: Labatt Blue Light.

Not too picky.  Yuengling, Labatts Blue, Bodington, Molsen Canadian, Coors Light, Blue Moon and Bud are in the refridge right now.  They are nice and cold!!!!!!

I'm kinda picky a snob about my beer.  When I had my first kid I decided to start drinking cheap beer to save money for the family.  So, I guess I developed a taste... or lack of one for Coors and the like.  Lately I can't choke down the real cheapies though unless there's a tumbler near by.  Labatt Blue Light especially has been tasting extra horrid by itself.

I picked up home brewing a bit ago and have been quite successful in my batches. WNY has a lot to offer as far as getting into the history of brewing, showing people the operations of our microbreweries and brewpubs, and of course the sampling is a nice kicker.

Pearl Street has a class called Beerology 101 which was very beneficial

Also, this guy has a Saturday tour of Flying Bison, Pearl Street, Buffalo Brewpub, Ulrich's and some other famous watering holes. My wife got me a trip for father's day, but I haven't done yet. It seems like a cool idea for sure though.

AA on the Beer tour:)  Sounds like a great time.  Wish I could join.

I tried brewing beer once back in my college days.  Did like 25 gallons of it!  Only one roommate could drink it - gave everyone else a severe headache.  He was one happy dude though:)

Have you ever costed out how much cheaper it is to brew at home?  How much are the supplies to get going and do it properly?

I wouldn't say that it is cost effective to home brew, it is just a hobby that unfortuantely I haven't had much time wiht lately.

On a local level, Let's do wine has some beer making kits - http://www.letsdowine.com/beermaking.html
The intial equipment is around $80-$100 and the actual ingredients kits are around $35
The $35 kits make 5 gallons which is roughly 53 beers
Sure you can get really into it and buying the barleys, malts and hops individually to save money and concoct your own recipe but that is for the advanced brewer and I have only really dabbled thus far

A very popular online site is http://www.homebrewers.com/

For cheap and easy there is Mr. Beer - http://www.mrbeer.com/

I have done the 5 gallon process and also have the Mr. Beer kit. I prefer just the Mr. Beer kit for myself - it pumps out about a case for a $15 kit. I really don't have the desire or need to have a bigger operation than that.

The nice thing about when you purchase the beer equipment starter kits is that for the most part it is the same equipment used in wine making

I would say that wine making has proven cost effective becsue 5 gallons yields 23 bottles and this is what we use for Christmas presents for the people who come to our X-mas party. A wine kit can cost around
$60 or you can get the juice and ingredients from Walker's Way in Forestville for much cheaper.

Both are cool hobbies that I truly enjoy doing and later reaping the rewards from.

Nice I really want to home brew but I need more space.  My apartment is a little to cramped.

FFPA - If you want something cheap that doesn't take up much space, get the Mr. Beer kit. You can get the equipment for around $40 and the ingredients kits for around $15. You just need a cool (64-68 degree) dark space. A basement or even closet would do. The kit is only 2 gallons so it is small enough.

It's easy, small, gets the job done and the Candian Pale Ale  turned out spectacular

All this talk of beer is making me thirsty.  Thinking I may have to try some home brewing again sometime soon.

Welcom cragw!  Is that a bone or maybe a little stripper in your avatar pic?

They had 12s of Long Trail on sale so I bought one.  Nice brew - little on the sweet amber side for me, but very tasty.  Not sure if it was the "taste of vermont" though.

Is that somewhere on the Cape?  Man.  Ooooooone of these days I'm gonna get out there and sample some of that striper fishing.

IMO homebrewing pays off.  The initial investment is not that large and once you get going you can make really great tasting beers for 50 cents a piece.  Compare that to a $10 a six pack at the grocery store for a good microbrew.  Its more cost effective than tying flies I can garuntee you that!  I thought tying flies would save me money!  It has made me more sucessful though so I can't complain.  Happy Drinking.

Personal Favorite Brew:  Stone IPA

Shiner bock is the best beer on the planet.

I've always wanted to learn how to brew my own. I've had some great home brews.
