Clinch River Waterfront Digs
« on: May 16, 2011, 09:55:24 AM »
Through a series of fortunate events I found and successfully leased a cabin with riverfront access on the Clinch River tailwater in eastern TN.  If this doesn't seal my fate as a fish junky for life nothing will.  Just a heads up to any one on the board or in the area, there is a private boat launch, and friends could come use it (I only have a kayak unfortunately).  Lots of room to stay in the cabin if you are looking for a cheap trip.  There will be 2-3 mid twenties professionals living there, 2 who fly fish.  PM me if you ever want to fish.

Wow, you are now an official fish junky!  Nice place there.  How far is this from Nashville?  Spent some time there in January, and would like to get back at some point.  How fun would it be to throw a bunch of trout bums in that place for a long weekend?  Anybody be up for that?

Daaaaang!  That there is sweet.  How's the clinch fish? Not familiar with that river.

Anita,
The Clinch is about 2.5 hours east of Nashville.

Dejon,
The Clinch is very much so a scheduled river - the wade angler must heed generation schedules, too swift to wade during generation for the most part.  At low water it is very clear with some exposed rock.  Good insect life, hatches can be prolific when they happen, but I have yet to see a big one.  Under no generation it fishes much like a very large spring creek.  When there are not hatches a PT with a midge dropper most always will produce some fish.  If you have a boat you can float during one generator and strip big streamers with a sinking line and kill it.  I am obviously trying to locate a boat, or one I can rent/borrow off a friend for 6 months.  I have a kayak but under 1 generator is pretty sketch to use a drag anchor with the kayak (50 some degree water even in summer).  I'll let you know if I find a boat but until then there will be a lot of streamers tossed from that boat launch in high water.

Spoke too soon.  Was about to sign the lease tonight but one of my roomates had to back out.  Better luck next time.

This can all be ignored.

I was going to be living here also and I did a lot of  :'(  when it fell through.  Looks like Portland ME might be next on the list of possible residences.  Lets hope the fishing is quality there also.
