For over 100 years…

There is an often untold story in the fly fishing conservation world. Rightly so, we spend a great deal of time highlighting potential industrial and political hazards to our local river ecosystems, but often we become solely focused on such material. I guess “good news” just really doesn’t sell. But the neat fact remains that there are shining lights of both Mother Nature’s ability to persevere through years of human abuse… and cultural evidence that human beings really can learn from their mistakes and “manage” a peaceful and healthy relationship with their environment. We have a little cool water system in our area that stands as proof to this testament. And when I say little I mean little. Cold water springs seep forth from artesian wells and run not more than a few miles from this trout haven’s origin to where she spills life blood into a larger system. For over a 100 years anglers have probably been enjoying the same slow weed banked drifts. The same distant roar of trains running in the distance. The same descendents of great shadowy herons and frolicking deer in nearby fields. The same childlike pleasure and slight grin fooling a wild trout… and then watching is swim away.
