Leading the way to one of America’s best finishes in World Competition was Danny Marino in 8th followed by Matt Rose (12th ), Caleb Boyle (15th ), and Weston Reynolds (16th ). No doubt the hard work coaches George Daniel and Loren Williams have provided in the last year aided the youth team’s excellent showing.
Team USA used an odd and often unheard of technique in today’s world of competitive fly fishing: they used 1 fly. With Czech Nymphing and Teams of Flies on Lochs being all the rage today Team USA assessed the skinny, riffle water of Portugal and decided upon the 1 fly rule to enable ease of change and stealth. The procedure was to search each beat one time through with a single dry fly and then follow it up with a single nymph. Simple and effective.
